Rescheduled & reformatted from March due to rainout!
The Great Wall of Oakland is proud to present two evenings of work by MobileInTent including Borderless Imaginary, Tar and Feathers, the world premiere of the latest production by the traveling visual and performative arts group. In October 2014 a group of artists from Oakland, Berlin and Guadalajara began four months of travel, pushing against walls and borders from the permeable walls of a tent. They went from Oakland to Tijuana, Santa Fe and back again, mapping geography and possibility. They returned to continue their work in the Bay Area this year, with a new full bodied installation, performance and video. The series of provocative works explores the poetics of borders and distribution of resources, and the collision between tenderness and greed. As ideas of impenetrable border walls are bandied about, the permeable walls of art and ideas project other concepts of possibility.
On Friday, April 1, the Great Wall of Oakland will present 2 videos by MobileInTent:
Alta California + parts close by; Borderless Imaginary, Tar and Feathers. The videos will begin around 8 pm, repeating until 10 PM. The video projections will take place at West Grand and Valley , Oakland, CA 94612 on the Great Wall of Oakland’s 100’x100′ blank wall at the intersection of the Downtown Oakland, West Oakland, and Uptown districts.
On Saturday April 9, at 7:30 PM MobileInTent and the Great Wall of Oakland will present a live full performance at Ridge Space, 634 15th Street Oakland 94612. This site-specific installation of sculptural works, performance, music and video projection is directed by Ann Schnake with dance performances by Carmen Serber and Natalie Green, live music by Kristina Dutton and Linda Bouchard, and video by Robert Gomez Hernandez. The projections and performances are a delicate interaction with a constructed world of wooden boats, sails made of pig intestines, tar and feathers, balls, and bodies, all in perpetual motion and social exploration. The amazing acoustics of Ridge Space,a ballroom of an old hotel, will offer an additional sound experience along with the full bodied sensorium of food by chef Sylvie Osborne Calierno. This performance will sell out so get your tickets soon! Tickets are $20 available at http://
This project was commissioned by the Great Wall of Oakland and made possible with the generous support of the Fleishhacker Foundation and the Zellerbach Family Foundation Community Arts Grant.
