"Sink or Swim" by Callum Cooper

In celebration of Earth Day this month, the Great Wall of Oakland presents “Keep it Beautiful”, a 45-min screening of short videos and films about planet earth. The screening includes several pieces with breathtaking cinematography of far-flung corners of the earth but also films with harsh critiques of how humans are challenging the earth.
As with all of the Great Wall of Oakland shows, “Keep it Beautiful” brings together a wide-variety of perspectives from artists around the world. The pieces included in the screening were submitted through our ongoing Call for Entries via our website or hand-selected by members of from our jury.

Exquisite Corpse: a selection of words or images, collectively assembled.

During the early part of the last century, Surrealist artists used this concept as the basis for a parlor game by which one person would draw on paper, fold it to conceal part of the drawing and pass it to the next player who would continue the drawing using only the part that was exposed.

Unlike the Surrealists, the video artists in this series did not collaborate on our show, but through curation, we have attempted to find design elements or key concepts that connect the artworks in unexpected and amusing ways. Make sure you’re there to follow this very bizarre train of thought!

The “Street Art” show that was planned with Estria and Friends will be postponed until 2012. Thank you for your support!
