Why super 8?
Unlike other movie films, (16mm & 35mm) super 8 film is cheaper, the cameras are lighter, and it comes in an easy to load cartridge. This is a film-based, light-sensitive medium, and once you shoot your film, you have to wait until it is processed to see the results. Video may have its advantages, but Super 8 has that magical quality that makes us all look like art stars!
About the OS8:
The Oakland Super 8 Film Project (OS8) is a community-based art project collaborating with The Great Wall of Oakland to serve the Uptown District and surrounding communities. OS8 will educate participants in super 8 filmmaking, provide cameras and film processing and screen the finished films at the Great Wall for the entire community to enjoy.
The OS8 project will begin at the end of October with super 8 filmmaking workshops at participating organizations. Each week participants will be introduced to the project, taught how to use super 8 equipment, lent cameras for one week to make unedited, silent, 3-minute films, and have their film screened at The Great Wall of Oakland in early December. Participation is open to anyone, regardless of filmmaking knowledge, and all films with appropriate content are included in the final screening.
