Since 2006, the Great Wall of Oakland has been illuminating the city with large-scale projections of the most exciting video art and film produced around the Bay and the world.
It is the creative brain-child of Metrovation Development which started the project as a public/private collaboration with Metrovation, Signature Properties, and the City of Oakland. The mission has always been to enliven the Uptown District with fresh and provocative art and to give talented artists a prominent place to screen their work.
Curatorial staff of the Oakland Museum of California has joined our partnership and will provide artistic assistance as the Wall continues to gain prominence as a premier venue for large-scale video art and film.
In 2010, the Lake Merritt/Uptown and the Downtown Oakland Association Community Benefit Districts (CBDs) joined the partnership as 501 (c)3 sponsors which allows the Wall to accept tax-excempt donations.
